Squares, Man.

So, I had all of these leftover squares of paper from some school project or other and I thought I'd make a little art with them.  Each little doodle was made within a couple hours or less.  I tried not to put too much thought or pressure on each one as I was making them, rather I wanted them to be kind of spontaneous.  Here's what I have so far.  I still have a decent stack of squares, so there should be more of these coming along in the not-so-distant future.

(This one might have been unintentionally holiday inspired.  But who doesn't love the holidays?)

The Woman On The Moon

Here's a little something just for fun.  I didn't intend to create this piece on the same weekend as the blue moon, but I guess I'm just in tune with the moon.

Eccentricities Complete!

It's been a while since my last post, but, as you might well imagine, the end of my senior year has kept me quite busy creating things!  And I am very proud to pronounce that the book mentioned in my last post (now titled "Eccentricities: A Syllabary of Strange Girls") is complete and ready to be shown in the MICA Commencement Show!  So, if you happen to be in the Baltimore area between Friday, May 11 and Monday, May 14, you should stop on by!

Alphabet of Strange Girls

For my final printmaking credit before I graduate (to complete my concentration), I am taking a book/paper making class.  And who knew making books and paper could be so much fun?!  Definitely a craft that I am glad to have learned while still at MICA.  And for our main project for the semester, we're each making an artist book.  I have decided to create an Edward Gorey inspired alphabet book of strange girls.  The plan thus far is to lithograph the illustrations and letterpress the text.  It's going to be a lot of work, but I'm excited.  Here are examples of sketches that I'm working with:

Faux-losophy Thesis Update!

I made some changes to the t-shirt designs that I posted recently.  Below are the three final designs that I will be printing for this semester in three different color options.

YPF Poster

Here's an illustration I did for Center Stage's Young Playwrights Festival - where students all over Maryland are allowed to submit their own play to be produced by Center Stage.  This is a call for entries poster with room left for the information to be inserted.  My concept here was to simply inspire the imaginations of young people with a fantastical scene.  I'm assuming we'll find out whose poster was chosen in class tomorrow.  Even if my poster wasn't chosen, this was still a fun piece to make.

Thesis Part 2: Faux-losophy Revisited

So, for my thesis project this semester (a.k.a. my last semester!) I'm revisiting the Faux-losophy Tees project.  But things will not be what they were before.  The design style for the t-shirts will be much more hand lettering based (which I'm excited for because I enjoy hand lettering).  Below are a couple of sketches that I did this week:

And, as a bonus, here's something I just did for fun:

More Lifestyles: Final

So, I just realized that I never posted this.  A few weeks late, but here was my final for Lifestyle Illustration class:

The assignment was to illustrate a mixed drink of our choosing, plus the recipe.  I chose the drink "Atheist's Best" and thoroughly enjoyed creating these illustrations.
